History – Pescados Carmen – Fish Market – Palma de Mallorca

Pescados Carmen was founded in 1983 with the purchase of two stalls bought at the fish market called Mercat d’Oliver.The greatest drive behind it all was Josefina Ramon Oliver, who went from being a housewife and mother of five children to a professional fishwife. She always had a great skill in dealing with customers, and was always friendly, and helpful, which is why many customers still continue to shop there. Pescados Carmen was also started thanks to our father Juan Torres Oliver, who combined his work as a bank employee with the purchasing of fish for the fish market in Palma. He came from a strong fishing background as his mother was a fishmonger and his father a fisherman. Because he knew the ropes it was easy for him to navigate the world of fish and having a good business head he always knew where to find the best fish at the lowest price which could then be sold at the market. Today, 2 stalls have become 19 stalls, divided into 5 different categories and all of them are run by the 5 children (third generation) and 2 granddaughters (fourth generation).
